There You stood in Your
Turtle-neck shirt
I'm trying to breathe,
Not to overexert
You said not a word,
Tears defrosting down Your cheeks
After a well-rehearsed speech
Of why We cannot be.
Only now did I realize
How slowly I'd been dying.
Sweet water stung my eyes,
"You're So Beautiful When You're Crying"
She looked up a moment
Made a small sound
Said "I Love You," smiled softly,
Then fell to the ground.
I knew after that
She had been testing me.
She wanted to know if I was in,
If there was a 'We.'
Without You,
My heart has frozen over
And as night turns to day,
I only grow colder knowing
You've gone away.
